Here we’ll explain how you can setup your website based on any WordPress theme in a few simple steps. You won’t need any special technical knowledge for that.

Why WordPress at all?

WordPress is the easiest and fastest way to get any website up and running. According to the statistics WordPress is the most popular platform on the Internet – it has about half of the CMS market.

It’s comfy enough to be used by everyone from business owners to media artists and bloggers. And it is supported by plenty of ready themes created by various gifted artists for shaping almost anything that you want!

Space

First of all you will need space. Consider the whole process as.. well renting an apartment. You will need to go to the market, choose the right building with good reviews from current residents, low criminal activity and a nice on-site manager to look after everything. Same thing here!

There are gazillions of hosting companies eager to help you with digital space. Prices can vary quite drastically between $5 – $50 for a plan depending on the rooms number of your websites to store, m2 gigabytes of space, guests possible traffic load per month, security system, backup copies and other less important geeky stuff. Usually it’s easy to compare all the plans specifications in the comparison table and choose the one you need.

  • If you are looking for an affordable hosting we can recommend SiteGround: they have pretty reasonable prices, generous promotions for new clients, quite good loading speed and overall performance. Also you can choose between servers in 3 different countries to be closer to your website visitors.
  • Alternatively have a look at your local hostings (if you don’t go internationally and you are not from USA). Sometimes you could find even better deals with local companies, but we also advice to be cautious by reading some independent reviews first.

Sometimes hosting companies give up domain names for free for the first year, which could be quite handy if you don’t have one. That brings us to the…

Name

After you’ve decided with the space, lets think about the domain name of your new digital company! It will be the unique address for your clients to find you. That’s why it should be sharp and memorable, like yourcompanyname.com or yourblogname.com.

The most popular domain extensions are .com, .org and .net. You can also go with the specific one (like .travel or .cafe), but only if your business or blog is directly related to it, and you can be sure that you clients would easily memorise the name.

Installing WordPress

Usually all solid hosting companies have the install-in-one-click option for WordPress users. And each of them has detailed instructions and video tutorials to help you with the whole process.

Check out SiteGround guide here: Use SiteGround Wizard to Install WordPress.

If you’ve chosen any other hosting company, just have a quick dig inside your hosting account panel and try to find ‘1-click-installation’ option with WordPress icon.

Themes

After you’ve installed WordPress, you’ll see a very basic default WordPress theme. You can leave it if you like, but be aware that this theme is bundled with WordPress for all users. Meanwhile there are thousands of ready solutions available in the market, that can dramatically change your website design and functionality!

For now, we have 2 blog themes:

Be safe and up-to-date

WordPress is supported by a vivid and fast-growing community. It’s constantly evolving to protect you from all new security threats and to make your interaction with the system better. So it’s very important to:

  • backup your database and wp-content folder before any large updates (usually it can be easily done with a hosting backup service or any backup plugin like this one)
  • check Dashboard > Updates section in your WordPress admin panel for any new updates for the core or themes and plugins that you have

Also try to avoid installing unnecessary plugins and inserting unreliable <script></script> or <iframe> code inside your content. It will increase your safety level not speaking of your website’s loading speed.

Now you are ready to share your ideas with the world and start blogging! Good luck!
